Tips for the Interests Steward conversation

When students check their interests they have
  • Tell them “Check your interests and we want to answer your questions”
  • We sometimes do large group stuff, but ask your teacher if you’ll have class socials.

Asking students about other interests. So the intent is not limited to that like:

  • So how about this?
  • What do you think of this?
  • What if we say?
  • If students are interested in business, medical English and citizenship. We will let them know if we start these classes.
For test

ask them which test they they want to do?

  • TOEFL
  • IELTS
  • Other might need DUOLINGO
If they check the social box
  • Show them the QR code for the WhatsApp social group. We don’t promise many social events, but we say this is the group for our large group social events.
  • Instructions should be done using Google Translate.
  • Keep the explanation short and sweet.
For business class, medical class, citizenship,

tell them if and when we start the test. Ask them also which test they are preparing for and when they plan to take it would be also helpful.

Dinner Discussion and Bible Study

These are the more involved ones. The Bible study is more straightforward. Basically we want to know what experience they’ve had in studying the Bible.

Dinner & Discussion

We can say, this is a discussion in a home around spiritual topics.

  • Ask, Do you have much experience talking about the Bible before? ( this would give enough information not to scare people away if they don’t have much experience.
  • But if they’re already a Christian, let us give them the opportunity to tell us.
  • For those who don’t have much experience, we could reiterate this question
    • Do you already have a church in the area?
    • You’re most welcome even tough you have don’t much experience.
  • Give them the QR code for the group. (this is for the Bible study)
  • For the Dinner Discussion we don’t have  QR code, we could just show them though our phone and add them personally to the dinner discussion.
    • Whether they’re Chinese or non Chinese, we could add them to the WeChat group or the WhatsApp group. But we might want to confirm if they’re non Chinese, are they on WhatsApp because we don’t want to add them something they never check.

NOTE: When we are talking with them, it not every week, or they don’t have to go every week.

Bible study
  • It’d be helpful to say we saw you checked the box for a Bible study.
  • Ask. What kind of experience have you had in the past?
  • Have you studied the Bible much or read the Bible much?

Ask:

  • Are you more interested in a one-on-one study with someone of your same gender or group study?
  • Then find out their availability.

NOTE: Some of these individuals who checked Bible study are very low in English.

  • Maybe not to ask or something, but at least not that might be  have them or likely if they want a home language study.
  • Note that it would be well, when they sign up for this, if they are asking for English Bible study. (this is also a good clarifying question to ask)
  • Also confirm what language they want to do it in.
