What does it mean to be a Friendship Partner?

Short, interactive equipping for Friendship Partners

Live, or on your schedule

We are not able to offer live training as frequently as we would like so we make it available on this page for whenever is convenient for you. However, if you have a strong preference for live training, let us know so we can tell you know the next time we have this training scheduled (most likely over Zoom).

Time & space

We hope that this is not just a time for you to be equipped, but also to have space to listen to the Holy Spirit. So please find a time & place where you can focus. It should take around 20 minutes. Think of it as "training without the meeting."

It's also going to be easier to have a screen larger than a phone (e.g. a tablet or computer).

Training, not scoring

None of your responses in the first tab will be saved or recorded. They are exclusively for your training benefit.

Part 1: On the Job Training (Virtually)

On the Job Training (OJT) is beneficial because:

  • is learner focused
  • focuses on growth rather than correct answers
  • is immediately relevant

We like to offer our training virtually (VOJT!). This provides OJT benefits but makes it available whenever you're ready.

Please do this VOJT tab first. In it, you'll find a variety of types of interaction, and they generally get more challenging as you progress. You will also see that most of the information is similar to in person OJT: you will not have preparation. But don't worry! The goal is training, not to get all the correct answers (we don't record any of Part 1). Training is the goal

Part 2: Critical Thinking

After completing the VOJT tab, wrestle more deeply with the content and actually contribute to Link through sharing your ideas with us in the critical thinking tab.

Your answer will be submitted and we may reach out to you to get more of your thoughts.

Please note, this Friendship Partner training has a prerequisite: the All Link Volunteers VOJT. If you have not yet done that, please start there instead of here.

After you've completed part 1 (the VOJT), please provide your responses to these two situations. They represent values we can feel like they are in tension: intentionality and friendship. First, imagine you're with a friend who lacks vision for reaching their international neighbors. What ideas do you have for encouraging them to seek the deepest joy with their brief moments left before eternity?
After you've completed part 1 (the VOJT), please consider this situation. A temptation we have as we reach out to our international neighbors is to accidentally think of them as a project. Would you help us avoid this by responding thoughtfully to this question? Imagine you're with a friend named Chris who is very structured in their time, schedule, goals, etc. They are very excited to meet someone here from another country so they can share the gospel with them. They've even had training in the bridge illustration, the 4 spiritual laws, and evangelism explosion for this purpose. You're concerned they may unintentionally be approaching this person like a project. A few weeks later, they do connect with a recent immigrant to our city named Vahn. Through a mutual friend of yours and Vahn's, you hear that Vahn feels a little uncomfortable because the only times Chris contacts him are when he wants Vahn to come to a spiritual event. Chris is disappointed. He feels like he's not making the progress he hoped for and he asks you for advice. How would you coach him to look at Vahn not as a project, but as more than that? Try to come up with at least 3 ideas.
