Having military experience is not enough. Part of serving cross-culturally means always being a learner because we will never be an insider. This area is no exception as there are unique elements to serving Int’l Military Students and stewarding the trust of the fort.
Some ESL experience
Has been ESL Teacher in the past
Complete Ministry Safe training
For those who serve children or lead those who are serving children, we require that you complete child safety training called Ministry Safe. This is at no expense to you, just the hour or so it takes to go through the online training.
Formal certification / degree in ESL/TEFL/TESOL/etc
This level of leadership needs formal training. Examples of this include certificate or a degree in English as a Second Language (ESL), English as a Foreign Language (EFL), or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Pass background check
This role requires a background check. This helps to steward the trust of those we serve and of our secular partners who share their internationals with us.
Computer / online proficiency
Be an active participant of a local church
There are many reasons we can find to avoid connecting with Jesus’ bride. But He still loves her and is working in and through her, so we need to lean in. And sporadic or virtual participation is not enough (unless you’re in a closed country where there are no local believers).
